SpringML: What is your current position at SpringML?
Baolin: I currently build predictive models with predominantly Tensorflow in Python code. The majority of the projects that I have worked on involved object detection where you detect objects within an image and training the model on Google Cloud Platform. I have also worked projects which required heavy leverage with Google Big Query to extract information from existing tables. Depending on the project, I found creative ways to leverage Google’s APIs for out of the box solutions.
In between projects, I work closely with the marketing team to deliver demos and blog posts to attract more business to the company. I also validate the content of others to make sure that the technical message is conveyed correctly before it is released to social media.
SpringML: What’s the first thing you do when you come into work and last to wrap up the workday?
Baolin: I first check my emails to make sure I catch up on all the updates since there are teammates that are working while I am sleeping. After that, I check my calendar to see what kind of meetings I have today. Before I dive in, I check the Asana plan to make sure I am on track on my deliverables to the customer.
During the workday, I usually have some good tunes playing while I work on a customer project. Before I end the work day, I make sure all my work is saved and sometimes I would share my progress with my project manager before heading off.
SpringML: If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Baolin: I would pick Chris Sharma, a climbing legend from the Santa Cruz area. I choose him because of his amazing climbing abilities, but he also is very deep when it comes to eastern philosophies which I could definitely learn from. It’s also a plus that we were both born and raised in California.
