SpringML: What is your current position at SpringML?
Kaushik- I am a Data Engineer at SpringML. My work and responsibilities include dealing with data, deriving insights, building pipelines around them, and not just restricted to what the job role traditionally means, but also I try to involve in anything and everything i can work or even learn and work on, ensuring the best possible deliverable and customer satisfaction.
SpringML: What’s the first thing you do when you come into work and last to wrap up the workday?
Kaushik- When in office, during the pre-pandemic times(aah! nostalgia), I start my day by greeting and catching up with people around, replying to all my emails and messages, if any, then grab a cup of a warm beverage at my disposal, and sit with my notes to see my tasks and plan up my day. After wrapping up all the work through the day, I make sure that all the tasks planned are completed and note down the updates and tasks for the next day if anything still needs to be worked on.
Except for the “Hellos”, the “Smiles” and the casual talks over a cup of coffee in-person at office, my start and end of the day at present are still the same.
SpringML: Before joining SpringML, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Kaushik- Working at SpringML is my first full-time job opportunity. Prior to that, I have experience as a Teaching Assistant during my undergraduate studies which was very interesting and fun to do where apart from the teaching stuff, I got the opportunity to understand different mindsets and experiences. I was also actively involved in hosting and organizing summer camps for school children and any place with kids is always interesting.
SpringML: If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Kaushik- For me personally, there was never one person I could choose as a mentor, but I really draw inspiration from the principles and values of a number of people. Being as calm as possible during difficult times is what I learned from my dad. Quenching the constant thirst for learning and being on top of the latest implementations and technologies, presenting what I learned in the correct way, and giving out best quality production-grade solutions is something I have and am still learning by working and being mentored by Amit Deshpande, Senior Vice President of SpringML India Development Center. Detail and clarity in the work I do and the words I speak is something I picked up from Girish Reddy, Co-founder and CTO of SpringML.
SpringML: What are 3 words to describe SpringML?
Josh- Commitment, Quality, Learning.
Every member of the SpringML family has a serious commitment towards the work. We have put in our best to own and excel in the work we do and ensure production-grade quality work with customer satisfaction. And working around the latest technologies, keeping ourselves updated and learning stays on a constant rise which contributes towards the growth of the company and skill development on a personal level too. Learning and putting forward our work to the outer world through various mediums like blogs, vlogs, webinars, podcasts, etc for everybody else to know and learn is something we look forward to as knowledge and solutions kept to ourselves is of no use to anyone. Check out my latest blog Building effective Document Management Systems using DocAI talking about one of SpringML’s solution towards building a Document Extraction and Management system. (Promotion of the blog? No no. Just a quick read to know about something new.)
SpringML: Best vacation you’ve been to?
Kaushik- One which comes on top of my mind is my first solo long drive. One evening I just picked up a bike on rent; within an hour, I started from Hyderabad to Hampi, midway I realised I could extend the trip and finally landed up in Bangalore the next morning. This experience is something I’ll never forget.
SpringML: What’s the most recent app you’ve downloaded but are yet to use?
Kaushik- I downloaded an app called “Riyaz” which is basically a platform to learn classical music. My purpose was to learn flute properly under a professional. Surely looking forward to starting with it once all my other priorities are met.
SpringML: What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Kaushik- I enjoy playing the flute. In the fun activities hosted by SpringML, if there’s music, you’ll find me playing the flute. I am very much interested in learning different musical instruments. I play keyboard, flute, ukulele, and I have started learning Violin. Apart from that, I am trying my hand at baking. Long drives are something which I always look forward to, but the pandemic has drastically reduced the number of times I step out.
SpringML: How do you find a Work-Life balance?
Kaushik- The Work-Life balance is something I am still learning, especially in “2020” where drawing a line between work and life has become quite a challenge. Personally, working from home turned out to be difficult for various reasons. But with the experience of handling multiple projects and tasks, I saw myself become more efficient at what I do which in turn reflected in maintaining the balance. My best attempt is to keep the disturbances in personal life away from work, and stress due to work away from bothering the daily life, And an add on in the past couple of weeks since the start of the Yoga Sessions which are being conducted, I try my best to attend them especially when having a stressful day.
